In the Adafruit shop, we offer amazing waterproof and weather - proof items. Once you've completed a project, you'll need to enclose it. The challenge is to keep the enclosure waterproof and weather - proof while connecting cables for power, data, or sensors. That's where our cable glands shine! By installing these cable glands over the cables, they form a perfect seal, protecting your project box's internal components from the outdoor elements. We have two popular sizes. The PG - 9 size fits cables with a diameter of 0.158 - 0.252 inches, and the PG - 7 size, which we're featuring here, is ideal for cables with a diameter of 0.118 - 0.169 inches. These are the most commonly used sizes for power and data cables, so be sure to measure your cables for a proper fit. Adafruit's Best - Friend - Forever (BFF) Akiba from Freaklabs.org has a great tutorial on using cable glands to maintain the waterproofness of enclosures, even with cables running through. Using this cable gland is easy. First, measure your cable's diameter to make sure it falls within the 0.118 - 0.169 inches range for the PG - 7 size. Then, simply install the gland over the cable. This will create a tight seal and keep your project box safe from water and bad weather. Remember to measure your cables accurately before choosing a size. If the cable is too thick or too thin, the gland won't fit properly. To maintain your cable gland, keep it clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it down regularly. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they might damage the gland. If you notice any signs of wear or damage, it's a good idea to replace the gland to ensure continued protection for your project.
