A DMM is good for a quick check, but a panel mount current and volt meter is super useful when you need to continuously monitor a system. You can quickly diagnose battery - backed systems by checking the overall system voltage, and calculate run times based on the current consumption rates. This digital DC current/volt meter can measure up to 30V and 10A, using only about 15mA of quiescent current. All units come pre - calibrated, and you can further calibrate them after installation using the small trimpot on the back. The wiring is straightforward. The thicker 2 - pin wiring harness is for the ammeter and should be wired into the current return path to the battery or ground. The thinner 3 - pin wiring harness is for the voltmeter. The black wire on the 3 - pin harness is internally connected to the ammeter and can be left unconnected or grounded. Make sure to attach the Red wire of the ammeter to the system and the Black wire to ground, or the meter will show 0.00 as it can't display negative values.

Using this digital voltmeter and ammeter is easy. First, wire it up as described. Connect the thicker 2 - pin wiring harness for the ammeter into the current return path to the battery or ground. The thinner 3 - pin wiring harness is for the voltmeter. Remember, the black wire on the 3 - pin harness can be left unconnected or grounded. Attach the Red wire of the ammeter to the system and the Black wire to ground to get accurate readings. As for calibration, it comes pre - calibrated, but if you need more accuracy, use the small trimpot on the back after installation. When it comes to maintenance, keep it in a dry and clean place. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or humidity. If you notice any issues with the readings, double - check the wiring first. And that's it! You're all set to use your voltmeter and ammeter to monitor your system.
