This rubber sheet is crafted from the same carbon - black impregnated rubber material as our conductive rubber cord. It's a versatile item! Traditionally, it's used for EMF shielding or as conductive gaskets. But it's also a blast to play with. It can serve as an interesting stretch sensor or a soft, conforming conductive material. In its'relaxed' state, the bulk sheet has a resistivity of about 70 ohm*mm. When you stretch it, the resistance goes up as the particles move farther apart. You can stretch the rubber 50 - 70% longer than its resting length. For example, a 6 - foot piece shouldn't be stretched beyond 10 feet. Once you release the force, it will shrink back, though it's not instantaneous and takes a minute or two to return to its original length. It's not a perfectly linear sensor, and the resistance might vary between batches. So, it's great for measuring stretching motion but not super precise. We offer you a 200mm by 200mm square with a 1mm thickness. You can easily cut it with scissors or a die. You can use it as a conductor. Or, add a 100 - ohm resistor and refer to our handy Thermistor tutorial to measure the analog voltage and convert it back to resistance.

Using this conductive rubber sheet is easy. You can cut it into the size you need with regular scissors or a die. If you want to use it as a conductor, just connect it to your circuit. To use it as a stretch sensor, you can add a 100 - ohm resistor and follow our Thermistor tutorial to measure the changes in resistance when you stretch it. When stretching the rubber, don't stretch it more than 50 - 70% of its resting length. For instance, if it's 6 feet long at rest, don't stretch it beyond 10 feet. After stretching, give it a couple of minutes to shrink back to its original length. Remember, the resistance can vary from batch to batch, so don't expect super - precise measurements. To keep it in good condition, store it in a cool, dry place away from sharp objects that could damage it.
