In the Adafruit shop, we offer amazing waterproof and weather - proof items. Once your project is built, you'll need to enclose it. But how can you keep the enclosure waterproof while connecting power, data, or sensor cables? That's when cable glands come in handy! By installing these on the cables, they form a perfect seal, protecting your project box from the outdoors. We have two popular sizes. The PG - 7 is suitable for cables with a diameter of 0.118' to 0.169', and the PG - 9 (this one) is great for 0.158' - 0.252' diameter cables. These sizes are ideal for most power and data cables, so measure your cables to ensure a proper fit. Adafruit's BFF Akiba at Freaklabs.org has a great tutorial on using cable glands to keep enclosures waterproof. Check it out for useful tips!

Using these cable glands is easy. First, measure your cable diameter to make sure you pick the right size (either PG - 7 or PG - 9). Then, simply install the gland over the cable. It will form a tight seal to keep your project box safe from the elements. When choosing a size, always double - check your cable diameter to get the best fit. For maintenance, occasionally check the seal to make sure it's still tight. If it starts to loosen, you might need to replace the gland to keep your project protected from water and bad weather.
