Product Details

Controller Area Network (CAN bus) remains a top - choice communication standard across a wide range of applications, from passenger cars to lighting control and building automation. This MicroMod function board enables you to easily integrate CAN networking into your upcoming MicroMod projects. The CAN communication is managed by the MCP2515 stand - alone CAN controller combined with an MCP2551 high - speed CAN transceiver. The MCP2515 is a well - loved IC for CAN Bus, and there are numerous Arduino libraries available, like Sandeep Mistry's arduino - CAN Library. If your processor board has a built - in CAN controller, you can adjust a solder jumper on the board's bottom to directly connect to the CAN transceiver, skipping the MCP2515. The board comes with two connectors for your CAN node. There's a simple 2 - pin screw terminal for CANH and CANL, and a D - sub connector for use with our OBD - II to DB9 Cable. You can change the D - sub connector's pinout using a solder jumper on the board's bottom to fit other 'DB9' CAN cables on the market. A built - in 120 Ohm terminal resistor is off by default but can be activated via a solder jumper when creating your own CAN network. Note that a MicroMod Processor and Main Board are not included and need to be bought separately. MicroMod is a modular interface system that links a microcontroller 'processor board' to various 'carrier board' peripherals. Using the M.2 standard, it allows for easy swapping of processors and function boards. Choose a specialized carrier board for your project and pair it with a compatible processor! Key features include the MCP2515 Stand - Alone CAN Controller implementing CAN V2.0B at 1Mb/s with a high - speed SPI Interface (10 MHz), an MCP2551 High - Speed CAN Transceiver supporting 1Mb/s operation, up to 112 nodes connectivity, jumper - selectable 120 Ohm termination resistor, jumper - selectable CAN controller bypass for boards with built - in controllers, jumper - selectable DB9 connector pinout, and a MOSFET connected to the DB9 Bus - voltage pin for power detection from the host. Available documents are Schematic, Eagle Files, Datasheets for MCP2515 Stand - Alone CAN Controller and MCP2551 High - Speed CAN Transceiver, Arduino Library, and GitHub Hardware Repo.

Using the MicroMod CAN Bus Function Board is easy. First, if you're using a processor board without a built - in CAN controller, the MCP2515 stand - alone CAN controller and MCP2551 high - speed CAN transceiver will handle the CAN communication for you. You can connect your CAN node using either the 2 - pin screw terminal or the D - sub connector. If you use the D - sub connector, you can change its pinout to match other 'DB9' CAN cables on the market by adjusting a solder jumper on the bottom of the board. When you're creating your own CAN network, don't forget to connect the built - in 120 Ohm terminal resistor with a solder jumper. However, if you're inserting a node into an existing bus, leave it disconnected. Note that this board doesn't come with a MicroMod Processor and Main Board. You'll need to buy them separately. For maintenance, keep the board clean and free from dust. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures and moisture. If you encounter any issues, refer to the provided documents like the Schematic, Datasheets, and Arduino Library. You can also check the GitHub Hardware Repo for more information and support.
