The 'budget-friendly' Raspberry Pi cobbler! This 2x13 pin (0.1 spaced) header and socket combo is designed for our popular GPIO Ribbon Cable for Raspberry Pi Model A and B. It consists of two parts: a 'pin-through' socket and a male header. The socket fits across the center of a breadboard or Perma-Proto, and the header plugs into the top of the socket. IDC cables are common but tricky to use with breadboards, so this is an affordable and effective prototyping solution. It works best when soldered in place. We've used it on a solderless breadboard, but some customers say their breadboards don't work well with the shorter pins, so results may vary. Each order includes one socket and one header. Breadboard, Perma Proto, and IDC cable are not included! We also offer helpers for 2x20 pins, 2x16 pins, 2x8 pins, 2x5 pins, and 2x3 pins.

Using this IDC Breakout Helper is easy. First, place the socket across the center of your breadboard or Perma - Proto. Then, plug the male header into the top of the socket. Connect your GPIO Ribbon Cable to start prototyping. For the best performance, solder the helper in place. But if you're using a solderless breadboard, give it a try, though you might find that the shorter pins don't work well with some breadboards. Remember, each order only comes with one socket and one header, so you'll need to get your own breadboard, Perma Proto, and IDC cable. There's no special maintenance required, just keep it clean and dry. If you're using other pin configurations, we also have helpers for 2x20, 2x16, 2x8, 2x5, and 2x3 pins.
