Product Details

Hydro dipping is an exciting and interactive way to add printed designs to any surface! It works on any material that can hold a base coat and be submerged in water. Ideal for 3D printed projects, molded, and cast parts. You've likely seen amazing videos of motorcycle helmets and ceramic statues getting dipped. When done correctly, you can cover an entire shape with vibrant ink. Start by using an ink-jet printer (laser printers won't work) to print your design. Solid, abstract, and repeating patterns are the best choice as lining up the artwork during the dip can be tricky. After printing, float the thermal paper on hot water. The ink, held together by a thin clear polymer layer, will float on top. Slowly dip your item at a 45-degree angle, and the image will transfer to your project. If it doesn't turn out as expected, you can scrub off the ink before it sets. This A4 size thermal paper works best with water-based pigment ink. It comes in a pack of 10 sheets, and you can cut them down or reuse un-printed parts as long as there's enough border space. Note that mastering this technique takes a bit of practice, but we have a useful DIY video with plenty of tips to guide you through the process.

Using these hydro dipping sheets is a breeze. First, grab an ink - jet printer and print your design on the sheet. Opt for solid, abstract, or repeating patterns as they're easier to work with. Then, heat up some water and float the printed thermal paper on it. The ink will float on the water surface. Next, take your item that can hold a base coat and is submersible, and slowly dip it into the water at a 45 - degree angle. The ink will transfer onto your item. If you're not happy with the result, quickly scrub off the ink before it sets. Remember, it takes a bit of practice to get really good at this. Also, only use an ink - jet printer; laser printers won't work. The sheets are A4 size and work best with water - based pigment ink. You can cut the sheets or reuse un - printed parts as long as there's enough border space. For more tips and guidance, check out our handy DIY video.
