Product Details

Hook up these 8 high - end capacitive touch pads with LED indicators to your Raspberry Pi and start creating amazing beats and control surfaces. The Drum HAT, a much - desired companion to the Piano HAT, uses the same capacitive touch sensor to offer 8 finger - sized drum pads, each with an indicator LED. We've designed light channels carefully, allowing each pad to light up when tapped while keeping the LEDs from being a distraction. It also creates a really cool under - lighting effect! Use it to play music in Python, control software drum synths on your Pi, take charge of hardware drum machines, or integrate it into a complex drum - controlled project. The Drum HAT can even work alongside the Piano HAT with a Black HAT Hack3r or Mini Black HAT Hack3r, giving you a two - piece band in your hand. The MagPi called it 'an awesome amount of fun' and gave it four stars. Features include 8 capacitive touch pads (linkable to their own Python functions), 8 bright white LEDs (auto - lighting or controllable via Python), compatibility with Piano HAT, a Microchip CAP1188 capacitive touch driver chip, a defined pinout, compatibility with multiple Raspberry Pi models, a Python library, and it comes fully assembled. Our neat Python library lets you unleash your inner drummer in seconds. There's a ready - to - use example with sampled drum sounds; just connect speakers to your Pi's headphone jack. You can also make the Drum HAT output regular MIDI commands via a USB to MIDI adapter to control software or hardware drum devices. Note that our software doesn't support Raspbian Wheezy.

Using the Drum HAT is super easy. First, hook up the 8 capacitive touch pads with LED indicators to your Raspberry Pi. Once connected, you can start creating beats right away. If you want to play music, use the provided Python library. There's a ready - to - go example with sampled drum sounds, so all you need to do is connect speakers to your Pi's headphone jack. You can also use it to control software drum synths on your Pi or take charge of hardware drum machines. To do this, you can make the Drum HAT output regular MIDI commands via a USB to MIDI adapter. The Drum HAT can work alongside the Piano HAT when used with a Black HAT Hack3r or Mini Black HAT Hack3r. When using the LEDs, you can let them light up automatically or take control with Python. Each of the 8 capacitive touch pads can be linked to its own Python function. Remember, our software doesn't support Raspbian Wheezy. As for maintenance, keep the Drum HAT in a clean and dry place. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture. Since it comes fully assembled, there's no need for you to put it together. Just enjoy making music!
