Product Details

In 1970, John Conway introduced the single - player Game of Life, a fascinating mathematical game. It simulates 'colonies' that either thrive or perish based on their population density, creating a beautiful organic display from randomness. This is a simple electronic project design that plays Conway's Game of Life. You can build one kit and place it on your desk, or connect multiple kit modules for a large - scale display. Originally developed by Dropout Design, this updated version has some extra features. It's super easy to assemble, making it an excellent first electronics and soldering project. It's great for workshops as everyone can connect their finished modules at the end. The animated GIF above shows 4 modules connected. Each unassembled kit includes all parts for one module. Key features: Each kit has a 4x4 grid (16 LEDs). You can connect as many kits as you want in any arrangement to create a bigger game board. It runs on 2 AA batteries (not included) and can be easily changed to use USB or wall - wart power. There's an On/Off button to save power and reset the display. It automatically resets if the colony dies or becomes stagnant. It's also backwards compatible with older versions. Check the website for more details and directions!

Using the Conway's Game of Life Electronic Kit is a breeze. First, gather all the parts included in the unassembled kit. Since it's a great first - time electronics project, don't be intimidated. Just follow the basic soldering steps to put it together. Once assembled, insert 2 AA batteries (which you'll need to buy separately) or, if you prefer, modify it to use USB or wall - wart power. To start the game, press the On/Off button. This button can also be used to reset the display if you want a new start. The kit will automatically reset if the colony dies out or stops changing. When connecting multiple kits to create a larger game board, you can arrange them however you like. As for maintenance, keep the kit in a dry place to prevent damage to the electronic components. If you're not using it for a while, turn it off to save battery life. And if you have older versions, don't worry, this kit is backwards compatible with them.
